The ship's name is a Celtic phrase meaning mermaid. A good Irish girl needed auburn tresses. We didn't go as red as we could have--we didn't want people thinking it was supposed to be Ariel.

A crown of pearls sets off her green eyes quite nicely. I find it a lot easier to paint the eyes on a My Size Barbie. I still haven't figured out how some of my artist friends can do such intricate eyes on regular size Barbies. They must have mutant powers. My eyes always cross when I'm working on the little dolls.

After she was painted, I antiqued her all over. That's always a scary step. Nothing more frightening than covering your intricate paint job with thick brown paint. But it worked. Gave her a nice aged look.

Layers and layers of polyurethane went on next, to protect her from the weather.

And here she is: Sloe-Eyed Nude with Scales.

You know, I'm sitting here now, looking at this photo and thinking, "Didn't I give her a belly button??"

Oh well. She's a mermaid. They probably come from eggs or something.
