I had to take several months off from this project until we actually arrived at Pennsic. I opted to work on the rest of the sculpture when I had the ship available, so she'd fit properly. That meant sculpting for most of my vacation, but it was a lot of fun. The group that I camp with got to watch and comment on the process. I think overall they found the entire thing pretty funny. So, step one, a tail. Probably the most painful surgery for Babs to date. I had to drill several holes in the doll to insert wires and bolts for hanging. |

My campmates were suitably horrified and made sure I felt really guilty about drilling holes in Bab's nether regions, but it had to be done. Otherwise the tail would never be quite stable. I found a perfectly sized styrofoam cone to use as a tail base. |

A quick placement check on the bow, and we were ready to go. Morgan will eventually be building a fitted wooden base to fill in the gap between the mermaid and the ship. |
