Look, a sink. It appears to be a normal 18 guage, stainless steel kitchen sink, doesn't it?

Well, it's not. Sinks apparently come in one width--22 inches. No more, no less. I know this because ours needed to be 21 inches, and I couldn't find one for love or money. This one is 21 and a quarter, and it's the best I could do. It took me several trips to various home stores and a very long evening on the internet to find one that was smaller than standard and still in the same price range. (This is a lot harder than it sounds. Evidently making the sink out of less material is an extremely expensive proposition.)

So, although it appears to be a normal sink, it isn't.

Why did our sink need to be smaller than standard, you ask? Well, (I answer) it's because I had my heart set on one of these. It's a flip out tray where you can keep kitchen sponges and stuff. I thought this was just a spiffy idea for keeping sink gunk to a minimum. Brilliant, I thought. What I didn't know is that they never EVER fit with a standard sink. The trays bump into the sink underneath, and the panel sticks out unattractively. The usual practice is to explain patiently to the homeowner that they don't work, yank out the trays, nail the drawer shut and never mention it again.

Being me, of course, I couldn't take this answer so I embarked on a nightmarish journey to MAKE it work. And now, work it does, to the immense surprise of the builders. They have no idea how tenacious I can be when I get my mind set on something.

More kitchen gadgetry. This is a pull out pantry shelf. It takes up six inches of space, and I can fit all kinds of stuff on it. Then I can promptly forget that it's there until it starts to smell funny.

These aren't gadgets. I'm just sharing because the doorknobs have been placed on the cabinets. They look cool and make me happy.
